Festive Happenings at 1 Utama

This year, 1 Utama promises shoppers a grand deeparaya celebration of two significant Malaysian festivals, Hari Raya and Deepavali from 29 September to 25 October 2006. The shopping centre has taken on the theme “Sinar Adilfitri”, which symbolises the unity of both festivals on the basis of light, celebration and worship.

Visitors stopping by Lower Ground Floor Oval will be mesmerised by a majestic palace setup featuring Moorish-Islamic architecture that will transport spectators to a Middle Eastern land. This elegant structure will feature decorative domes and delicate wood carvings.

Aside from the stunning visual masterpiece, a giant congkak will be displayed at the Oval and is one of the largest ever built in Malaysia. Measuring 20 feet in length, the giant congkak serves to educate today’s society of the popular traditional game, especially tourists visiting 1 Utama. Shoppers are invited to play a game or two.

Noor Arfa will also hold batik-making demonstrations at Lower Ground Floor Highstreet for public viewing from 6 October to 22 October, 12pm to 8pm.

Surrounding the palace setup at the Oval and at Lower Ground Floor Highstreet are 16 kiosks offering a wide array of festive merchandise, ranging from fashion, accessories, stylish apparel, jewellery and other unique handicrafts. From cookies, chocolates to festive hampers, shoppers will definitely enjoy taking home these delicious goodies for the entire family to enjoy.

Participating brands selling Raya and Deepavali merchandise at the Oval include Silk Closet Boutique, Amin Jauhary, Xuan Florist & Gifts, Makin by Giant, Patchi, My Diamond, Tranz by Poh Kong, Tribal Spirit, Bonita, PSF Boutique & Gift Shop, Pesona, PSA Collection, Sutera Anggun Pesona and Chocolate Graphics.

Another unique attraction is 1 Utama’s Ramadhan Bazaar. An arch has been put up near the Oval to lead shoppers to the Bazaar, which will have a semi-outdoors atmosphere. There are over 35 F&B stalls, including that of authentic local vendors and the shopping centre’s own tenants – Old Chang Kee, King Pie, Jetty Restaurant, The Chicken Rice Shop and DQ Orange Julius.

From Middle Eastern to local Malay cuisine, to thirst quenching drinks, sweet kuih’s and colourful desserts like cendol and ice kacang, tuck in too to savoury dishes such as nasi briyani, ayam percik, nasi tomato, ikan bakar and asam laksa. Star dishes include delights like Laksa Sarawak, lemang, rendang and kek lapis.
